Yes, the Council approved the permits for Bakers Bay even though there was oppostion to the approval.
Yes they are really from the Cays. Guana Cay unfortunately only gets one representative who is Glenn Laing. The rest are from MOW and Hopetown and the Chief Counselor is from MOW. We know that our representative, Glenn Laing, voted against the permits but as usual Guana Cay is at an unfair disadvantage. |

Are these permits "retroactive"? How does this affect the contempt motion?

I wonder if those council members who voted in favor of the permits would like to invite DLC to their islands to do a little reconstructive landscaping?

I keep seeing dates for posts but do not see the posts. The board has been disturbingly quiet - - what is happening since the approval of the permits at Hopetown? This can't be the end? I have looked everywhere for some kind of update but am finding nothing.

The SGCR board has had a run of spammers lately. When you see that a post was made it may be that. The board has been quiet lately because we are all working on the next step in the case which is to prepare for the ruling from the appeals court. Many SGCR members have been researching the clean-up methods prescribed for a disaster like what DLC has done to Bakers. The damage is in the multi-millions. It IS ironic that Hope Town council has approved permits on a case that is in litigation. They have been served with legal warning no to do so. Now they will face the consequences. Whether those consequences will be administered in the Bahamas or London will be up to the judge in the Bahamas. SGCR will not rest, stop, give up, bow under, or compromise. From day one DLC has operated illegally. For their first three years they did not even bother to acknowledge the NEED for permits. They just went ahead and did what they wanted. Now with a new government in place we have an opportunity to see how much Hubert Ingraham meant when he spoke of development issues. DLC has already spread their propoganda into the ear of an Abaco rep. We know better. Hubert knows better. Dlc knows better but they still want to make a buck on the backs of Bahamians. We will keep you all posted as to any new developments.

Thank you for your reply. What can I do to help? Though I am an American, please know that I deplore what is being done to your nation, and not just in Guana Cay. We have seen so much of this type of over-development all along our coasts and it has and is destroying the quality of our waterways. The Chesapeake Bay is in dire straits and may never recover; this year alone, the oxygen levels are so low that the the organisms that cannot move, such as oysters, are severly threatened. Run-off and nutrients that leech into the water are taking their toll; development has removed the buffer zones of natural grasses and other plant life that would absorb the run-off. This is what is so alarming about the DLC project. How can anyone believe that the fragile reef that lies so close to shore can tolerate the slightest disturbance? I have wondered, as I looked at the photos of the boats in which DLC transports potential clients, how those boats and the speed at which they travel, and the wakes they create, are not doing harm to the reef and the life that inhabits those reefs. Multiple that a hundred-fold, or whatever number of boats DLC intends to berth, and it is a disaster in the making. It is beyond my comprehension how anyone can really buy into DLC's hype of an eco-friendly project. There is no morality in the DLC project - - it is a shameful explotation of a pristinely beautiful environment. Tell me what I can do.
