Like every small community GGC is comprised of people with many different points of view. Some are full time residents and some visit once every year. Some are owners and some are renters. Some work here and some play here. Some get envolved and some just watch. Some are outspoken and some are quiet. BUT ALMOST EVERYONE CARES ABOUT THE OVERALL WELL-BEING OF THE PLACE WE CONSIDER HOME.

I personally think that items # 1,3 & 4 are all very important for Guana Cay.
Unfortunately I think item # 2 is of emerging importance for Guana Cay. Having watched it evolve, I would say its emergence is due to the arrival of the Bakers Bay Club and I don't just mean the people, it is about what the entire controversy has brought to the island. |

Bakers Bay has illuminated the need for better government representation.
Police presence is unfortunately now needed for the reasons expressed by ModeratorSGCR...it remains to be seen if this need becomes more critical as more DLC employees descend upon Guana. |

First, good for Baker's Bay for bringing to light the need for better government representation.
Your second comment suggests to me that you think DLC employees are in someway different than workers, that come and go to GGC by some other means than the ferry to Baker's Bay. It is my understanding that DLC hires Bahamian's and that they are drawn from the same workers pool on Abaco that supplies workers for many other jobs on the Guana. I do not think DLC employees are commuting back and forth from Nassau or Freeport or a foriegn country everyday. And I certainly don't think "DLC employees descend upon Guana" from anywhere out there more than other workers who land there. My sense is that DLC has cherry picked the best employees who live in Abaco and in some cases have worked for many other businesses and government agencies. IMO there is no differnce between DCL employees and those that work other construction sites all over GGC. Why do you think it's just DLC employees that need to be policed? |

I won't even address the first sentence...like we should thank them (BBC) for enlightening us on our obvious Respresentation shortcomings?????
In my post I went to great lengths to state that the "controversy" appears to have brought an "emerging" (that does not mean today) need for policing on Guana. I believe the other post was of similar in intent. If you want to go on a tangent as to what this may, or may not, mean have at it. However, I would suggest that you review your Username, and then decide whether you want to express Opinion Facts or Fiction - you seem to be full of opinion, but void of facts. So let me give you a dose of reality...The Facts Are...There is significantly more mischief, vandalism and crime on Guana Cay, than there was before the Bakers Bay Project was announced in 2005, it has spiked. Again this is a fact, and does not attempt to say who the culprit(s) are, you are jumping to conclusions when you say that DLC is being accused. Unfortunately this is now the reality, now, shall we talk about why that might be? Those items would be "Opinions." |

It seems as though it is the executives from DLC that cause the most unrest. And yes, an increase in population will cause ,by numbers alone, an increase in crime. The island would not need more police protection had it been able to continue to grow at it's previous(to DLC) pace where the growth rate was digestible. It is a completely different story when a tsunami sized population increase hits the books. If the poster above is insinuating that someone is being slandered remember it's not slander if it's true.

ModeratorSGCR for a touch of reality and clearly stating the "facts" about mischief, vandalism and crime on GGC.
I have spent the last day or so just reading through the threads from the start of this board and with the few exceptions of periodic contributors like AbacoPeach (wow), coconutscottage (sgcr admin) and Pat W or Frankie it seems you are mostly taliking amongst yourselves. No wonder you admit "It is obvious that this site has bias, get over it, we pretty much let you say what you want." To which I say thank you. Perhaps you should pick up the latest edition (Feb-July 2007) of "Destination Abaco" where it is interesting to read the headlines for different destinations; Abaco - "Investment Climate" Marsh Harbour - "Time to explore...." Treasure Cay - "What a jewel....." Hope Town - "Quaint but so much fun..." Man-O-War - "Serenity......." Guana Cay - "Party capital of Abaco....." Green Turtle Cay - Experience the culture..." Perhaps you have been right all along and the signs are correctly placed in the "capital" however it seems to me IMHO a dubiuos distinction for GGC. Party on. |

and does anybody think about the kids on this rock? NO. Rarely mentioned. Do we have box car races, holiday parties, a junior sailing club, a library, a junkanoo, arts and crafts, swimming races, basketball, softball, a playground, community events chili cookoffs, fairs, and fun? Party on. Party on. Party on.

Nothing is stopping anyone on Guana from pursuing what you mention in your post. Guana as it exists today is ripe with opportunity...if you have some creativity, half a brain, and here's the kicker...the willingness to work hard. There are folks on Guana who have this type of entrepreneurial mindset and are willing to work very hard for it. Are you?
If so, get to work to make these things happen, and stop complaining. They don't just magically appear. |
